This presentation will provide academically peer reviewed research, case studies and relevant real world examples as to what students & educators are doing on-line. The goal of our program: to educate school staff on how to pro-actively discuss on-line "critical thinking”, decision making skills and on-line ethics with their class. We will show educators how to help a student build a positive on-line reputation. We will also be discussing developing Canadian Case Law, and how it relates to an educator’s criminal, civil and professional/personal liability, specific to the use of Social Media both in and out of the classroom.

We presented this topic at last years BCTF New teachers conference in Richmond, and all the feedback from those who attended was that this presentation was one of the best at the conference , and that all educators should hear our very important and unique message specific to this topic.
Delegates will come away with:
- A better understanding of what youth and educators are actually doing online both in and out of school; and
- How educators can minimize both their criminal and civil liability when using the Internet and Social Media in the classroom.
